The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on May 15 that Brooke Lomas, 41, of Eunice, was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Detention Center for allegedly stealing a vehicle. The arrest followed an investigation by deputies and detectives after the victim reported that Lomas had taken her vehicle without permission while retrieving personal belongings from the residence.
According to the sheriff’s office, after deputies spoke with the victim and gathered information, they entered the stolen vehicle into NCIC. The car was later found abandoned near the Evangeline and St. Landry Parish line. Detectives continued their investigation through interviews, recorded statements, and a review of jail phone recordings.
Investigators developed information suggesting that Lomas took the vehicle to Eunice with another individual and attempted to sell it. A detainer was also issued for Emerald Williams, 28, of Eunice, who is currently incarcerated at the Eunice Police Department on unrelated charges.
Lomas faces one count of felony theft of a motor vehicle under Louisiana R.S. 14:67.26 with bond set at $45,000. Williams is charged as principal to theft of a motor vehicle (felony) under Louisiana R.S. 14:24 with bond set at $35,000.
Sheriff Charles R. Guillory said “As always…the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office encourage anyone with information regarding criminal activity to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 337-363-2161 or submit a tip through the agency’s website at www.evangelineparishsheriff.org. Any person reporting information will remain anonymous.” The sheriff’s office reminds that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
