The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on Apr. 15 the arrest of Leland C. Guidry, 55, of Cheneyville, in connection with a physical assault that resulted in serious injuries to a victim.

According to the statement, the case was referred to the Criminal Investigations Division after the victim sustained multiple facial fractures and other injuries and was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Rapides Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Detectives identified Guidry as the suspect responsible for the attack following their investigation. He was arrested on April 1, 2026, and booked into the Evangeline Parish Detention Center on one count of second degree battery (felony) under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:34.1. His bond was set at $20,000.

Sheriff Charles R. Guillory said that anyone with information regarding criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 337-363-2161 or submit a tip through the agency’s website at www.evangelineparishsheriff.org. “Any person(s) reporting information will remain anonymous,” Guillory said.

The sheriff’s office also reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
